Evaluation

For our project we were told that we had to create a website and this would consist of  creating an account on Wix.com and then choosing the template under designer portfolio options that you think will compliment your work the most. Blog  all design options considered and why you settled upon your final template while including screenshots. The next step is to select the best of the work you have produced on the course this year, this must include a minimum of 5 Photographs, 5 Graphic pieces produced with either Photoshop or Illustrator and 2 video production pieces and then i began designing and uploading to the Photography, graphic and video production sections of my website. I then blogged (Upload screen shots and annotate) details of my work for the session.

I'll start by reviewing a student in my classes work and I'd say that he did an overall good job at designing the website but there's a few points that I think he should take from this because I think he should have his website all one coloured text as it doesn't look very appealing and also maybe tidy some stuff up on his site like where his buttons are placed etc so it looks clean. Other than that though I think his website is pretty good!

The second persons website is interesting as its set out like mine but I think that he could of set it up a little bit better with the header of his site. I think the picture for the header could of been a little bit better and the text maybe a little more professional. Also as you can see in the screenshots provided the person has spelt "graphics" wrong which makes it look just a little less professional.
My website was supposed to showcase my best work of the year and I think that having a column for "photography", "video and film" and "graphics" then showcasing my best work in that and also then having my inspirations there as well so I think that my website definitely fits the purpose.

There was quite a few issues with my web design as I wanted it to look like when you click on the website that you have a selection of the links right in front of you where you could click and "go into them" in the middle of the screen but obviously the templates weren't like that so I ended up having to settle for the design which I have now. Overall I'm happy with how my website looks and acts as I would say it's professional and smart and that's the way I wanted it to come across.

To improve my website I would say that I could make the text a different colour because I've had people say to me that on some parts of my website its quite hard to distinguish the texts. Here is the screenshot of what the person said so you can see for yourself:

The finished website

In the first two pictures you can see my "Home" button and it basically contains of an about me section that tells you about myself and a picture of myself to go with it. Then you have a background picture and you also have a red/pink-ish kind of colour as the theme for the whole website and a small menu for you to navigate through which includes "Games and graphics, Photography and Film" In the games and graphics section that you can see above and below I displayed some of my best work for you to see and many more! It also contains inspirations for my work.

In these pictures I'm showing you my best photography and this is it! I also show you my inspirations for my work and what i based it off. Some of these pictures consist of the work i did in the "Film Noir" project i did and others from the "Freak Or Unique" project while others are from unexpected assignments.

In these two pictures above and below are pictures of the Video and Film sector which contains a small explanation of where you are and what you're about to click on. There are two videos on there that I've created while being here at college and its the "Avidity Bar" and the "One Minute Man". All you have to do is click on the videos and it plays for you.

Starting my website

In this lesson i went on to a website called "Wix" and I started to put together some pieces for my website. So far I've uploaded these pictures above.

Website research task

This is an artist called Banksy. I quite liked Banksys' layout as it was plain and had the "inside" part and the "outside" part which basically displays his art that was created inside and outside. The next one is Q+A and it tells you to follow an email address to see all the threats that banksy has received and questions etc. Here are the pictures to the left and below. I think the layout compliments his work because its simple and draws the attraction more to his actual work rather than his website itself.

This artist has a portfolio also and is called "martin parr". I like his layout also because i think it does quite compliment his work as its got different sections such as "british food" and "bad weather" so you can pick and choose which subject you want to look at rather than just flicking through all of the pictures and this also complements his work as he has so much of it. It lets you flick through and see everything. I dont really like this design as much though its a bit complicated.

This photographer is called Jeremy Cowart and he takes photos of basically everything really, he has categories like men, women, world and healthcare etc. I like this layout because when you click on the category you can see all the pictures below you and see everything. I also think this compliments his work well and its not that complicated. I might use this as inspiration.
